But, in an ideal world , let's say it's the weekend - and you've made it there en beauté.
Just an ounce of imagination, and this scene is a dreamy foyer of a theatre filling up with lovely spectators dressed in honor of the evening, where you cross through and mingle in gentle effluves of perfume until the bell rings.

Can you tell I'm glad to have my opera tickets now?!
With sweaty palms, I waited for the precise minute the e-box office was to open, clicked on my date of choice in January and nothing was left. Strange and disappointing. An inside job, wouldn't you say? I chose another date, not nearly as convenient, but I managed to get my four tickets with grouped seating. Il Trovatore is for March. It's not easy to get tickets here in Paris.
On the bright side, I'll have plenty of time for anticipating the event!

Oh bravo! So happy to read you have your opera tickets awaiting, albeit for next spring! Golly, I think it is time for you to venture a little outside of Paris and find a smaller theater and see if there is anything for you before March.
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no doubt that your choice of attire for your evening of entertainment will be nothing short of spectacular, judging from the fabrics you feature in your post today. You'll have plenty of time to select the perfect outfit, and as you say, the anticipation is half the fun of these things.

Yes, you have something there! It's true that reservation anxiety spoils part of the fun. The good news is, this weekend I got the last two seats to Haendel's Theodora at the beautiful théâtre des Champs-Elysées. The musical director is William Christie and I'm a fan. Thank you, thank you for stirring up my operatic appetite, Lady Domus!

And yes, I had the same experience in Paris when I attempted to purchase e-tickets for the ballet at Opera Garnier. E-tickets....forget it. Face to face with the cashier was the only way. But what a night to remember! Magnifique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Robin. It used to be we 'd reserve by mail giving second and third choices for the date. The pressure wasn't as intense but the wait was looooonng to get tickets - or not. But as you say, once you are there, nothing else matters but the music and the magic on stage.
