LA: That is a danger - the realm of the potential and the thrill that it implies is usually unmatched. And yet.... The problem even with a key, is finding the right door.
I think your son understands intuitively the magical nature of a key. That something so small can open something so large is, indeed, amazing. Doors, thresholds and keys form the ritual of crossing over into a new beginning. My MIL was drawn to keys. I have her collection by my door. I hang my daily keys there among her treasures in remembrance (as it also helps to minimize where the @#$! are my keys?) and in tradition.
HbD, I hadn’t thought about the size factor and it’s a very pretty idea. Sometimes it takes only a small something to make a new beginning. I love the glimpses you give of your home. It makes for a very lively, if haunted place. Maybe it’s a form of ancestor worship you have going on there.
I remember once reading a quote in AD from the designer Tony Duquette about the magical properties of the mirror, the box and the door. Best, Kendra
ReplyDeleteI agree, yet chance can sometimes overwhelm us with expectation that never meets reality. In this case-any key to any of the will do.
ReplyDeleteKndra: Now that's something I would like to see!

The Grand Entrance...all so lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of images. It's true--but there's nothing wrong with trying a lot of those beautiful doors.
ReplyDeleteAlaine: all the lovelier with patches, patinas, and signs of repair.
ReplyDeleteArt: that's the spirit! No one ever said how many chances you got!!
Lovely, lovely doors. I like doors, though these are more portals I think. The key? Not so important when there's playful imagination at work.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Blue. Imagination is key. My son wears a big brass key on a cord around his neck sometimes. It's very handsome really.

Thank you , David. I'm smitten with yours too!
ReplyDeleteso many doors...so much possibility (the abundance of life behind each one!)...so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images - I particularly like the one with the diagonal planks, against the red wall.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite things about these doors......are the ones with faces above them!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely have a face above all my doors........in my next house!!!
Look closely at those faces!
Divine!
