Portes de Provence

Il n'y a rien de plus beau qu'une clef, tant qu'on ne sait pas ce qu'elle ouvre.
There is nothing more beautiful than a key, as long as we do not know what it opens.

  1. I remember once reading a quote in AD from the designer Tony Duquette about the magical properties of the mirror, the box and the door. Best, Kendra

  2. I agree, yet chance can sometimes overwhelm us with expectation that never meets reality. In this case-any key to any of the will do.

  3. Kndra: Now that's something I would like to see!

LA: That is a danger - the realm of the potential and the thrill that it implies is usually unmatched. And yet.... The problem even with a key, is finding the right door.

  4. What a lovely collection of images. It's true--but there's nothing wrong with trying a lot of those beautiful doors.

  5. Alaine: all the lovelier with patches, patinas, and signs of repair.

Art: that's the spirit! No one ever said how many chances you got!!

  6. Lovely, lovely doors. I like doors, though these are more portals I think. The key? Not so important when there's playful imagination at work.

  7. So true, Blue. Imagination is key. My son wears a big brass key on a cord around his neck sometimes. It's very handsome really.

  8. I think your son understands intuitively the magical nature of a key. That something so small can open something so large is, indeed, amazing. Doors, thresholds and keys form the ritual of crossing over into a new beginning. My MIL was drawn to keys. I have her collection by my door. I hang my daily keys there among her treasures in remembrance (as it also helps to minimize where the @#$! are my keys?) and in tradition.

  9. HbD, I hadn’t thought about the size factor and it’s a very pretty idea. Sometimes it takes only a small something to make a new beginning. I love the glimpses you give of your home. It makes for a very lively, if haunted place. Maybe it’s a form of ancestor worship you have going on there.

  14. Beautiful images - I particularly like the one with the diagonal planks, against the red wall.

  15. My favorite things about these doors......are the ones with faces above them!

I will definitely have a face above all my doors........in my next house!!!

    Look closely at those faces!
